Alternative Schooling Styles : Private Schooling Parents unable to homeschool their children still have options in private schools. Several styles are available, one of which is sure to fit your child's special needs and unique way of learning. Some styles are more traditional and teacher-directed while others are more progressive (see Grouping and Rankings). Every private school will have a method or style that it uses as its basis for all learning. You won't find one school that uses two styles successfully. So, if you have children with different learning styles, you will have to compromise or send them to different schools. Some private schools receive government subsidies, others are truly private. We recommend that your children attend private schools. Else, you will be paying twice for the priviledge of experiencing the same public school problems that you are trying to escape. Be sure to investigate each school in your area thoroughly before you sign any contracts. Have face-to-face meetings with parents, teachers, and administrators. Bring your child, and ask hard questions. Theory and practice don't always match and implementation varies between schools using the same schooling style. Resources and Curricula Quotes
"Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government." -- Thomas Jefferson, political philosopher, teacher, architect, drafter of the Declaration of Independence, and third President of the United States "But the ground of a man's culture lies in his nature, not in his calling. His powers are to be unfolded on account of their inherent dignity, not their outward direction. He is to be educated, because he is a man, not because he is to make shoes, nail, or pins." -- William Ellery Channing, Unitarian theologian "Education is the transmission of civilization." - Will Durant, teacher, historian, philosopher, and author "Only people who die very young learn all they really need to know in
kindergarten." -- Wendy Kaminer
